1. Strategic Project Management

Business strategies are implemented through project management, and more specifically, through program and portfolio management and with the assistance of governance mechanisms ('Project Governance') and PMO structures ('Project Management Office'). However, it is essential to first understand some fundamental concepts such as: strategic planning, management styles and organizational structures and cultures, terms that the students will learn about throughout this module.

2. Planning and Project Control

In this module, students will delve into the principles upon which project management is built, allowing them to understand the skills of the Project Manager. Some of the aspects covered include: Project Manager Leadership, Styles; building the project team, resilience and adaptability, Project Manager commitment; motivation, influence, coaching, and learning; and conflict management and negotiation (emotional intelligence).

In this course, students will focus on scope management, since meeting the project's objective is the first test of project management effectiveness. It is clear that this test precedes the assessment of compliance with approved schedules and budget costs, as executing the project on time and according to the budget is useless if the project's goal has not been achieved. In addition, the course covers project financing, as a project manager must be able to understand the language, structure, and processes that take place in project financial management; lead that management and/or collaborate with financial managers in its development, both at a project and organizational levels.

This module provides a comprehensive view of schedule and budget (cost) planning in projects. The course is challenging due to the volume of content to be assimilated in the available time, so students must be very disciplined with the established deadlines. This subject also covers aspects of agile project management related to schedule and cost planning. In addition to providing knowledge related to the study topic, it is designed to address aspects that support students in preparing for the Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification from PMI®.

This course focuses on project quality management, where current management systems and basic principles of Total Quality Management will be studied to analyse various current models, including EFQM and ISO standards. The differences between implementing a Quality Management System in an organization and developing the corresponding Quality Manual will be identified, determining differences concerning the preparation of a Quality Plan for project management. Additionally, the course covers project risk management, providing the necessary resources to address the risk management of any project, ensuring the proper handling of threats and opportunities that may arise.

During this module, students will focus, on the one hand, on the procurement management and the legal aspects of projects. This specific subject will give students the ability to develop the best contractual strategy in each single project, as well as to evaluate the most suitable types of contracts and to elaborate the corresponding bidding documents. On the other hand, students will focus on the project sales management, where students will analyse the environment where offers are developed, how to maximize their effectiveness, how to increase the sale options of the project (always maintaining a solid basis for its execution), the role of the buyer and the aspects of negotiation and strategic sale.

Applying Agile Methodologies requires a significant mindset shift. To address them, it’s essential to understand the fundamental concepts of this type of management, what differentiates it from the traditional process management and the best techniques and tools to use. This course presents another way to manage projects and products of high-performance teams, comparing them with traditional methodologies such as the one developed in the PMBOK® Guide. 3. People Management in Projects

During this module, students will focus on the human factor in project management and delve into topics such as interpersonal skills and leadership, as well as the main techniques of conflict resolution. Students will learn about the Code of Ethics, Professional Conduct and its applications in Project Management. In another hand, this module will also offer in-depth knowledge on topics such organizational project change management and project people change management, among others.

Master's Final Project and Additional Activities

This program is designed to complement the content of the thematic blocks with the necessary training. This includes technical support, personal support and the presentation of individual and group challenges necessary to achieve the objectives set.

The student will have the opportunity to take 3 Pre-Master Bootcamps that will open progressively and can be taken at any time. Upon completion and passing the course, the student will receive a certificate.

Introductory Workshop | Campus Training

Before the start of the academic year, students will have the opportunity to attend an introductory workshop where they will be provided with the tools and knowledge necessary for the correct use of the Campus, the platform used during the academic year.

Professional Development Program (PDP)

Two weeks before the start of the academic year, the student can participate in a professional development program where they will work hand in hand with a teacher on the development of various skills such as time management, productivity, stress management and emotional intelligence. Once the workshop is completed, the student will receive a certificate.

The main objective is to carry out a project that allows students to apply the groups of processes learned throughout the program, as well as to specialize in the management process of a specific project. It focuses on applying best practices from different industries, understanding its benefits and exercising management skills that every Project Manager should have.

Bootcamp: Project Management Information Systems (PMIS) and Tools.
This bootcamp will help students acquire the necessary skills to analyse, select and apply PMIS solutions (Clarity PPM, Planning IT, Cardinis, EnterpriseTrack, Power Steering, etc.) and tools (Redmine, Remember The Milk, TeamViewer, etc.) to make the daily life of the Project Manager easier. This subject is also designed to teach students how to use and work with the Gartner Magic Quadrant.

Bootcamp: Project Management Simulation. SimulTrain.

SimulTrain is a project management tool developed by STS that provides calls, emails and voice messages simulations to create a realistic project management environment; through these, students can implement fundamental project management procedures, tools, and techniques learned throughout the Master. For this bootcamp, participants will work in teams and 'simulate' the role of a Project Manager through the planning of the execution of a fictitious project, facing the most common obstacles that may occur in real life: the customer requests some last-minute changes, difficulty in obtaining the necessary resources, technical difficulties during the development of the product, etc.

Company Visits

During the program's development, students will have the opportunity to attend synchronous video conferences conducted by experts in the program's area. Said professionals will use this platform to share their experiences with the students, as well as to provide advice on the best practices in the sector.

Webinars

Most of the training is conducted asynchronously, i.e., the exchange of knowledge is done through a platform that allows sharing written texts without the need for people to be connected at the same time. In addition, synchronous sessions or 'webinars' are organized in each module, where all participants are connected at the same time through an application, allowing the exchange of knowledge in 'real-time'.

The Master in Project Management includes the preparation of students to two PMI® certifications, with the support of exam simulation applications:

In order to obtain it, you must have a university degree. In the exceptional case of not having this degree and having passed the Master's evaluations, you will obtain a Higher University Diploma from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB).

Admission Process

The fundamental aim of our admissions process is to ensure the suitability of candidates. All participants should get the most out of this learning experience, through a context in which it is possible to develop long-term relationships with classmates, faculty and alumni.

After completing the application form for one of our programmes, you will receive an e-mail with information about the School and a member of the Admissions Department will contact you to start the admission process. Once you have successfully passed the personal interview, you must submit all the required documentation to continue the admission process and certify that you meet the requirements of the student profile. After the Admissions Committee, if it is positive, you will be able to register and enrol in the programme you have applied for.
