Marlon Sanchez's testimonial about the Master in Information Systems and Technology Management

School of Innovation & Technology Management

We are OBS

Marlon Sánchez, ICT manager, explains his opinion as a student of the Master's in Information Systems and Technology Management at OBS.

"The different modules of the Master's degree brought me up to date on the one hand, but also opened my eyes to new information technologies. It is no longer just about digital media or the instrumental use of technology, but also about how this can help the business."

Why did you decide to study this Master's degree?

Two reasons that motivated me: a loved one of mine had taken a master's degree in operations management, I heard him talk about it, and in Ecuador a few years ago there was a theme of following master's degrees but not everyone was convinced, and then I saw how he implemented a good practice in his company and it motivated me and I asked for information and they were very quick to provide me with this information. And from there it has been a nice process of accompaniment, of not feeling alone. And the other was because of the position I held at the time, which was director of an ICT NGO. I wanted to update myself in order to carry out new projects and ideas that I had to get our country on the road to digital transformation, which is so difficult, because not all companies believe that technology is a means, a tool for improvement.

What skills have you developed throughout the programme?

In its various modules, the master's degree brought me up to date on the one hand, but also opened my eyes to new information technologies. It is no longer just about digital media or the instrumental use of technology, but also about how this helps the business to achieve its goals. You will no longer see the technician who fixes machines or computers, it goes beyond that. It is transversal, it crosses all the axes of the company and so it was very interesting in each of the modules, especially one that was about digital transformation and cybersecurity, which helps us to use processes and see beyond.

Now with 4.0 technology in our country it is not well understood, it is a complex path, but I think that understanding this from now on will help me.

Would you recommend the OBS' Masters?

I have already dedicated myself to recommending it through all the media. I must say that in Ecuador there is a kind of OBS virus because everywhere I go I meet people who say they are trying to do a master's degree, so I find it gratifying because it is a good force. Also in Ecuador there is a whole certification process that we have the guarantee that OBS and the academic endorsement is allowing us to register our masters and that is good.
