Responsible leather goods: _nab, winner of the OBS Impact Scholarships
The strategy that promises to transform the leather industry in Colombia
OBS Business School presents one of the three winners of the second edition of the OBS Impact Scholarships. On this occasion, the selected project is _nab. not a brand, a passion, an initiative promoted by Natalia Cárdenas, a student of the Global MBA at OBS Business School.
The project was born after identifying the high environmental impact of the leather and leather goods sector, considered one of the most polluting globally due to its high water consumption, use of harmful chemicals, and highly polluting tanning processes.
- Over 30% of the leather produced in Colombia is discarded due to natural imperfections or defects in the tanning process.
- In Bogotá, where most of the country's leather production is concentrated, the sector generates approximately 1,500 tonnes of solid waste per year, much of which is not recycled or treated properly.
Faced with this problem, _nab proposes a cross-cutting strategy based on the principles of the circular economy with the aim of transforming waste into high added-value products. To achieve this, it presents one of its first partnerships with Color Moca, a brand that has the technique, craftsmanship and history necessary to define a new vision in the leather goods industry. The initiative seeks to redefine the concept of sustainable luxury, offering unique and functional pieces that are committed to a more responsible production model. In the words of Natalia Cárdenas:
“_nab does not aim to be a brand; it is a reminder that it is not about selling products, but about changing mindsets.”
